As Earth Day reminds us of our impact on the planet, experts are raising alarms about a hidden source of pollution—our clothes. Many garments, especially those made from synthetic fibers like polyester and nylon, shed tiny plastic particles called microfibers when washed. These microplastics often end up in oceans and food chains, posing environmental and health risks.

Consumers can help by choosing natural fabrics, washing clothes less frequently, and using filters or washing bags designed to catch microfibers.
